World Book Day 2025

At Wold we all enjoyed celebrating World Book Day and we all looked amazing - thank you to all our parents for supporting the children with their costumes.

Y6 listened to the musician Sampha read our text 'Heavy Metal Badger'. They then listed words linked to the sounds and music from the text. after that. they created animal rock bands (Kings of Lion and Catallica were their favourite!). We designed a poster to advertise our new rock bands.

Y4 had a 'Heavy Metal Badger' session and had a choice of activities. Some children used Chromebooks to type a sequel to the story (the band becoming famous) and some children designed an illustration for the book of their own rock concert stage design. Mrs Metcalf also read some snippets of her favourite books and the children designed their own bookmarks.

Y3 started the day by making predictions about the school's focus book 'Heavy Metal Badger'. When they eventually read the story many of them were pleased to find that by using the clues in the blurb on the back of the book, they had precited extremely accurately!

Y2 loved exploring our school story 'Heavy Metal Badger' on World Book Day. We listened to different genres of music and discussed how these made us feel and made predictions about what our story could be about from looking at the front cover. We then created our very own animal rockstar! We designed their outfits, instruments and gave them a rock name too. The children were very creative and came up with some very imaginative ideas!

The children in Y1 had a super day on World Book Day dressing up as some of our favourite book characters. We also enjoyed reading the story about 'Heavy Metal Badger' and then creating our own musical animals.

F2 children who had read at least 18 times and recorded this on their green Reading Rocks card last half term had a special reward today. We had a visit from Duncan, who is the author and illustrator of 'Heavy Metal Badger' Duncan read his book to us and then we had a draw along session, drawing badger. We also had a chance to ask Duncan some questions.
