Wold Academy

At Wold Academy we pride ourselves on creating a safe and fun environment for our children to learn, grow and develop lasting friendships.

Enrichment

Enrichment is an important part of daily life at Wold Academy.

Enrichment is a key driver for both Wold Academy and our academy sponsor – David Ross Education Trust. We provide a broad range of enrichment opportunities - focussed around sports, the Arts and PSHE - as we firmly believe that these opportunities will benefits our pupils, both academically and by broadening their life experiences.

As a David Ross Education Trust academy, we believe that enrichment can help to raise academic standards, enhance performance and teach life skills that will equip our pupils for an ever-changing world.

Primary enrichment gives students the chance to participate in activities that supplement learning and enable them to broaden their skills and experiences, identify talent and enhance it.

Activities include performing arts, including dance, drama and music. There is also a focus on sport, outward bound and developing life skills.

What sort of skills does enrichment teach?

• Determination to succeed
• Teamwork and collaboration across key stages
• Success for all
• Respect for others
• Tolerance
• Courage when engaging in new experiences
• A sense of fun and enjoyment
• Resilience
• Creativity
• Drive in raising aspirations – be the best you can be
• Health benefits

Academies across the Trust are encouraged to work collaboratively to make the most of the opportunities on offer.

Highlights from past years at Wold, include:

Geography:

At Wold Academy, we have established links with staff at Hull University and use these relationships to enrich our children’s geographical and scientific understanding. We have a weather station on site at Wold Academy, which measures temperature, rainfall, wind speed and wind direction. The weather station collects data which is analysed not only by the school, but also by Hull University and Yorkshire Water. This is closely linked to local flood defence projects and aqua greens.

Our children have recently benefited from local field trips to collect data at the aqua greens and reservoir,  and also visits to the weather station accompanied by university staff. We also have our own pond on the school site, also part of the flood defences, which has developed into a beautiful wildlife haven.

DT:

We often have DT competitions which are linked to seasonal activities. The pictures show a DT competition which was linked to Hull Fair. The children designed and made their own stalls with the help of their wonderful parents and we then shared all the rides in an exhibition after school.
We also hold craft events when we invite parents in to join us with making various things which are again linked to seasonal events. The photos here show the parents making poppies with their children which then became part of our whole school display.
